    What qualities should a black belt posses to earn this mark of rank?

        I agree with both of the above, Black Belt should be a teacher and represent the system/style as an exemplary practitioner. High moral/ethical standards are equally important as technical proficiency.

          I never tested for my black belt. When I was ready, my teacher awarded it to me. The test was decades of training!

            That's interesting and quite cool too. It also poses another question for the forum. What should a black belt grading entail?
