Kumdo is the Korean art of fencing; modern versions of which are similar in training methods, apparel and competition rules to Japanese Kendo The exact origins are a point of some contention amongst scholars, some pointing to the possibility of it being the origin of two sworded hand techniques although this viewpoint is not common outside of Korea.

Modern Kumdo is a popular sport in Korea today. Practitioners wear helmets and body guards which are of similar nature to their Japanese counterparts, however, armoury is often simplified and sometimes forms are practiced alongside individual movement or techniques.
