    Collegiate Wrestling

    Collegiate wrestling is an American form of College wrestling with no ring which is governed by pinning down offensivelyan opponent in order to win.


    Bouts are generally held in three rounds, the first being of three minutes in length, the second and third rounds are of two minutes in length.

    In 1900 the first Collegiate match took place between Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania, in 1905 the Eastern inter-Collegiate Wrestling Association held its first tournament and shortly before the outbreak of WW1 Edward Clarke Gallagher, a track field and football coach from Okalahoma State University, launched wrestling as an official varsity sport. His team dominated the competition circuit for a decade between 1921 and 1931.
